Our History

Exterior Renovation Begins

Exterior renovation of the 1771 foundation began at Johnson Hall on August 31, 2020. This phase was known as Phase One of the renovation. Phase one included the repair of the exterior masonry, replacement of seven windows, restoration of 21 windows and five additional windows, and the repair and repainting of the galvanized tin cornice at the top of the building.

Interior Renovations Begin

Interior renovations began at Johnson Hall on April 8, 2022 with a construction kick-off event. This was Phase Two of the renovation. To kick off this momentous phase, Congressman Jared Golden gave a speech, and representatives for US Senator Susan Collins and Senator Angus S. King, Jr., and Gardiner Mayor Pat Hart herself attended. With support from the City of Gardiner, our volunteers and staff, and Kennebec Savings Bank and many more, we couldn’t be more thankful.

A Historic Renovation is Complete!

Renovations at Johnson Hall Opera House came to an end with the very last paint job and touch-ups completed in January 2024. The theater is set to open its doors to the public during the 160th season for the inaugural show of Robert Cray on March 26, 2024.
